The Dominican Republic is the fourth largest exporter of prostitutes in the world and is a hot spot for sex tourism. Prostitution is legal for anyone over the age of 18 and is looked upon as a viable alternative to living in poverty. The high percentage of young girls who end up in prostitution proves the need for some kind of intervention. EMPOWER Girls is a program that mentors at risk girls in hopes that they will make positive life choices and not enter the sex tourism industry. Our vision is to see a generation of girls walking in their calling.

To accomplish this, we have implemented a girls club and lesson plans based on a curriculum that teaches girls to measure their lives by the Bible’s standards and that helps them find their value and self-worth in God. Different topics include attitude, choices, integrity, self-esteem, peer pressure, resolving conflict and commitment to Christ. Along with these lesson plans, different activities are included such as discussions on faith and sexual integrity, field trips, one-on-one life coaching, micro-enterprise projects and leadership development.
